The Art of Hand Lettering

Art of Hand Lettering, published by Disney Editions and designed by Studio KMZero, is a richly illustrated book that introduces readers to the fundamentals of calligraphy and hand lettering.
Combining didactic exercises with artworks inspired by some of the most iconic Disney characters, the publication offers both a practical guide and a source of visual inspiration for anyone passionate about the art of writing by hand.
My contribution focused on the chapter and titles dedicated to Blackletters.
For this section, I designed a complete uppercase and lowercase alphabet rooted in Gothic calligraphy traditions, but reinterpreted with a contemporary and intuitive approach.
The goal was to make a style often perceived as complex more approachable for learners, while preserving its strong historical character and visual impact.
In addition to technical explorations of letterforms, the book also features a variety of creative compositions that encourage readers to put their skills into practice.
These artworks invite experimentation, allowing each user to blend structure with creativity.
The combination of educational material and visuals makes Art of Hand Lettering both a learning tool and an inspirational showcase of Disney’s timeless storytelling.
